                                          2021 Conference Ideas

Scott Hanson, MRWA Source Water Protection Specialist

This year’s MRWA Conference will definitely feel unique since COVID has pushed it to August
from our traditional first week in March date. With any luck, one positive outcome will be that
no one will have to fight the snow and ice to attend. One thing that will not be unique is the
amount of energy that goes into the planning of our conference. MRWA staff switch off from year
to year leading up committees that put together the agendas for the conference. This year I am
heading up the committee that is putting together the topics and presenters for our Source Water
                      Protection/Groundwater track.

I think it is vital that we provide information that you feel is important and timely as Wellhead
Managers and Operations Specialists. To capture this, I am asking that you email any ideas on
topics or presenters you would like to see on the agenda to myself at scott.hanson@mrwa.com.
Besides our conference this August, we are planning on getting back on schedule and holding our
2022 Conference in March as normal. Any ideas that are submitted in August that do not work
logistically and are not time sensitive could also be pushed to our 2022 conference. We want to
ensure that the information we are providing at the conference is what you want to hear, not just
what we think you want to hear. We will, of course, continue to provide updates on the latest
issues and any changes at the agency level which impacts you and your water system.

Here are just a few of the topics that have been part of previous conferences:
                          Contaminants of Emerging Concern
                          MDH Implementation and Competitive Grants
How Partners Can Assist in Wellhead Protection Implementation Efforts
                          Locating and Sealing Old Wells

Hopefully, these help to get the thought process going regarding potential conference sessions.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon with your thoughts on the conference
                      agenda.
